Who is a Muslim?

The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is reported to have said in a Hadith.

الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

This means: A Muslim is he who does not harm other Muslim's through his tongue or hand. In other words, a Muslim does not speak ill of another Muslim nor does he inflict on him any kind of trouble, or cause distress to him in any other way. We think that we are preaching Deen but we do not preach it in the right way taught by Islam. A man is not interested in your preaching for some reason but you are thrusting your words into his ears by force through the loudspeaker. There is no justification in the Sahari'ah for such misconduct.

Once Hazrat Umar Farooq رضي الله عنه went to the Mosque and saw that a man was preaching Deen in the mosque to a gathering in a very loud voice which could be heard out of the mosque. Hazrat Umar Farooqرضي الله عنه asked that preacher to preach as loudly as it was necessary for the listeners present around him. رضي الله عنه threatened to use his whip on him if his voice exceeded the limit. This warning was given at a time when there was no loudspeaker. Now imagine the noise pollution created intentionally over the loudspeakers. If Hazrat Umar Farooqرضي الله عنه had lived in our days none of us would have escaped his whip.

The room of Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqah رضي الله عنه was adjacent to the Prophet's mosque where he صلى الله عليه وسلم lies buried. It was Hazrat Ayesha's routine to take rest there after the Friday prayer. A preacher used to call at that place and preach Deen very loudly. Hazrat Ayeshahرضي الله عنه sent words to that preacher asking him to preach as loudly as it was necessary for his listeners. The preacher did not mind Hazrat Ayesha's advice on the plea that he was only preaching Deen. Hazrat Ayesha رضي الله عنه made a complaint to Hazrat Umar Farooq رضي الله عنه did, against that preacher and demanded that he should be stopped from his troublesome practice by lowering his voice.
