Thomas Teye Partey, a Ghanaian midfielder has reportedly converted to Islam after so many years of being a Christian since infancy.
The 28-year-old has now joined the long list of popular sports personalities who have converted to Islam.
A post by the Muslim Athletes page on Instagram announced Partey’s conversion: “Thomas Partey has converted to Islam today. Barakallah brother.”
Meanwhile, a source close to the midfielder also confirmed that the Arsenal star has indeed converted to Islam.
“Yes, he has converted to Islam. It’s true [Partey is now a Muslim,” the source.
It is believed that the footballer’s sudden decision to change his religion from his childhood religion, Christianity to Islam, Partey’s move from the Spanish League to the Premier League might have influenced his decision to switch his religion.
England is well known to have a huge number of Islamic believers and since he will be playing for Arsenal, Thomas might have found it appropriate to change his religion.
As a reminder, Thomas Partey has signed a 5-year deal of £52,000,000 contract with the Arsenal F.C. The deal includes an annual average salary of £10,400,000.
Partey has been one of Arsenal’s best players in recent months as the Gunners aim to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The Ghanaian has scored two goals and provided one assist for Mikel Arteta’s side, who sit fourth in the Premier League.
