Kashmir Solidarity Day, also known as 'Youm-e-Yakhjehti-e-Kashmir' has been celebrated in Pakistan since 1990 as a day of protest against Indian rule in part of Kashmir.
Famous for its natural beauty, Kashmir lies in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, bordering the Himalayan mountains. At the time of the partition of India, the region was the dominant country under the British Raj. The empire was divided into three parts, now ruled by India (Jammu and Kashmir), Pakistan (Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan), and China (Aksai Chin).
Kashmir's divisions between India and Pakistan have led to hostilities and bloodshed during three wars between India and Pakistan in the region - 1947, 1965 and 1999.
Pakistan views the Kashmir regime as a central issue between India and Pakistan, which has led to three wars and means that Pakistan feels it needs to devote much of its national income to the military budget.
An inactive day to highlight the Kashmir issue was first raised by Qazi Hussain Ahmad of the Jamaat-e-Islami faction in 1990. This view was supported by Nawaz Sharif, the then Prime Minister of Punjab, and the then Prime Minister. time, Benazir Bhutto. The Pakistan People's Party then declared February 5 a public holiday.
On Kashmir Day, all government, public and private offices throughout Pakistan will remain closed. Pakistan State Bank will also remain closed.
The day is marked by political rallies, marches, and talks about Kashmir. The human chain was built on the main road from Pakistan to Kashmir.
