Jehlum: There was a reported accident on Thursday, December 28th, on GT Road near Jehlum today.

One woman died and 33 others were injured in a pile-up involving four vehicles on the Grand Trunk Road near Jehlum. The accident occurred due to the limited visibility caused by the heavy fog, highlighting the dangers of driving in such conditions.

Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules during foggy weather. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind while driving in foggy conditions:

- Reduce your speed: This is the most important safety tip when driving in fog. Visibility can be severely limited, so you need to give yourself more time to react to potential hazards.

- Turn on your headlights and fog lights: Your headlights will help you see ahead, and your fog lights will help other drivers see you.

- Don't use your high beams: High beams can actually reflect off the fog and make it more difficult to see.

- Maintain a safe distance: Following too closely is never a good idea, but it's especially dangerous in foggy conditions. Give the car ahead of you plenty of space so you can brake safely if needed.

- Be extra cautious at intersections: Visibility is often even worse at intersections, so use extra caution when approaching them.

- Pull over if visibility is too low: If you can't see far enough ahead to drive safely, pull over to the side of the road and wait for the fog to clear.

It's important to remember that even with these precautions, driving in fog can still be dangerous. If possible, it's best to avoid driving altogether when the fog is thick.
