Donald Trump was fined $110,000 after being found in contempt of court for failing to answer to a civil subpoena issued by New York's attorney general.

The news on one front in the former president’s many legal battles came shortly after a big development on another, the news that Trump’s former US attorney general, William Barr, is in discussions about testifying in front of the House committee investigating the deadly Capitol attack.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is considering a civil inquiry of Trump's financial dealings.

A lawyer for James' office indicated last week that evidence may support legal action against Trump, his corporation, or both, but that no decision had been made.

James, a Democrat, has claimed that her three-year inquiry found evidence that the Trump Organization misrepresented the value of assets such as skyscrapers and golf courses for more than a decade.

James' charges are denied by Trump, a Republican. He has referred to James' probe as "racist" and a "witch-hunt" prompted by politics. James has been accused by Trump's lawyers of pursuing him selectively. Trump has filed a federal lawsuit against James, requesting that her inquiry be shut down.
