According to the Daily Mail, NHS England will test drone deliveries of cancer medications to reduce the time patients wait for supplies to arrive.
Instead of travelling to the faraway mainland, patients on the island will be able to obtain the medication at the nearby hospital and drugstore.
On July 5, the organization's 74th birthday, Amanda Pritchard, the chief executive of NHS England, announced the "same-day delivery" pilot programme.
According to Pritchard, the usage of drone technology has the extra advantage of reducing the carbon emissions produced by traditional delivery methods such using vehicles, ferries, and aeroplanes.
According to health officials, chemotherapy medications were difficult to transport and have a short shelf life.
The Health Secretary said, "Patients will have quicker and more equitable access to treatment, regardless of where they live, by using newest technology to deliver chemotherapy by drone."
