Nahid Siddiqui, principal of a government school located in Faridpur in the district, has been suspended in this regard, while an inquiry has been ordered against Shikshamitra Vajruddin.
Local office-bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had lodged a complaint against both of them at the Faridpur police station.
‘Lab pe aati hai dua’ was written in 1902 by Mohammad Iqbal, also known as Allama Iqbal. He has also written a song like ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara’.
According to the Indian Express report, Vinay Kumar, Basic Education Officer (BSA, Bareilly) said, ‘A prayer was being conducted in the school, which said something like ‘Allah Ibadat Karna’. This is not the prescribed prayer, so the principal of the school, Nahid Siddiqui, has been suspended. I have also ordered an inquiry against Shiksha Mitra.
Some officials of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad accused the principal and Shikshamitra of hurting religious sentiments and trying to convert, calling it a madrassa prayer.
According to the Times of India, members of the VHP claimed that students who opposed such prayers were threatened.
According to the Indian Express, ‘In his complaint to the police, the VHP functionary has alleged,’ Principal Nahid Siddiqui and Waziruddin were making students offer prayers in the Muslim way with the intention of hurting the sentiments of Hindus. This was being done to attract the students towards Islam. Both the teachers are hurting the sentiments of Hindus and preparing to convert the students.
There are about 265 students from class 1 to 8 in this government school.
In this regard, 62-year-old Nahid Siddiqui said that she was not in the school when the alleged incident took place. She had gone on leave since last 12 December.
The principal, who is going to retire in March next year, said, ‘I am on medical leave. Before going on leave, we used to recite the prescribed prayer ‘Ae Shakti Humne Dena Daata’ along with the National Anthem everyday. In my absence, Shikshamitra got the recitation of ‘Lab pe aati hai dua’ done during the morning assembly. Earlier, when Shikshamitra asked me to read this prayer, I refused.
He said, ‘I am going to retire on 31 March. I am looking forward to my retirement as I am suffering from many ailments like high blood pressure and diabetes. I have fractured my leg thrice and I cannot even walk without crutches.
It may be noted that earlier in 2019, a headmaster was suspended after the same song ‘Lab pe aati hai dua’ was sung by students in a government school in Pilibhit district of the state. In this case also this action was taken after the complaint by VHP.
