FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar: Saudi Arabia stun Argentina, Japan beats Germany

The FIFA World Cup 2022 has started on 20th November and we’ve already seen couple of upsets during 5 days of major event. Although, the restrictions from the FIFA according to Islamic ruling and laws in Qatar, we’ve seen so many football fans from all over the world coming to watch their favorite teams play.

Match results So far:

Group A:

Qatar vs Ecuador: On the opening day, the Host Qatar was beaten against a decent Ecuador side by 2-0. Both the goals were scored by Ecuador’s captain Enner Valencia.

Netherlands vs Senegal: The Netherlands beat Senegal by 2-0. It was an intense match overall where Senegalese was looking favorites to win this game but they did not took their chances and concede two late goals at 84th and 90+9th minutes thanks to the goals by Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaasen.

Both Ecuador and Netherlands sit on top as they won their opening game of the tournament.

Group B:

England vs Iran: England starts their World Cup campaign with a massive victory over Iran, hit six past Iran in World Cup opener; Bellingham scored first England goal; Saka and Sterling strikes saw England race into 3-0 lead; Saka added his second of game; Rashford and Grealish rounded off big win in Doha; Taremi scored two consolation goals for Iran.

Wales vs USA: The United States and Wales battled to a hard-fought, physical 1-1 draw in their World Cup Group B opener. Timothy Weah scored a classy goal in the 36th minute to give the US the lead at half-time, but Gareth Bale struck from the penalty spot late in the second half to earn Wales an important point.

England sits on top of the Group B with Wales & USA on 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Group C:

Saudi Arabia vs Argentina: Saudi Arabia’s team left the Argentinian side stunned in a thrilling 2-1 win after eight crazy, second-half minutes of their opening match of the World Cup in Qatar. Lionel Messi scored the penalty in the first half for Argentina, whereas, Argentina was also denied by 3 offside goals given by the VAR. On the starting eight minutes of the 2nd half, Saudi Arabia’s Saleh Al-Shehri scored the equaliser for Saudi Arabia. Just after 5 minutes, Salem Al-Dawsari scored the stunning goal to put Saudi Arabia ahead of the South American giants.

Poland vs Mexico: The Second group game between Poland and Mexico went goalless after a penalty save from Mexico’s Goalkeeper Ochoa, denied Robert Lewandowski.

The Saudi Arabia sits on top of the Group C table after the memorable victory over Argentina.

Group D:

Denmark vs Tunisia: A goalless draw between Denmark and Tunisia.

France vs Australia: Olivier Giroud moved level with Thierry Henry as France's all-time top men's scorer after his brace led the World Cup holders to a 4-1 win over Australia in their Group D opener at Qatar's Al-Janoub Stadium on Tuesday.

Craig Goodwin gave the Socceroos a shock lead when crashing in a shot at the back post in just the ninth minute. But France soon roared to life and by half-time had the lead after Adrien Rabiot and then Giroud scored in the space of five minutes.

Two more quick fire goals came midway through the second half. Kylian Mbappe announced himself to the tournament with his first goal in Qatar before setting up Giroud to head in his 51st goal for his country three minutes later.

The France sits on top of the Group D with Tunisia & Denmark on 2nd & 3rd.

Group E:

Japan vs Germany: Late Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano goals earn shock victory for Japan over Germany in their World Cup opener against European Giants. Ilkay Gundogan put Germany ahead in the first half but Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano scored within eight second-half minutes for Japan to secure a famous World Cup victory; Japan had never previously beaten Germany.

Spain vs Costa Rica: Spain thrashed Costa Rica by Seven goals to Nil in one of the most one-sided World Cup games seen in recent memory. Dani Olmo opened the scoring, Marco Asensio grabbed the second and Ferran Torres put the contest to bed before half-time with a third from the penalty spot. The Barcelona winger grabbed another early on in the second half, before Gavi, Carlos Soler and Alvaro Morata added the gloss to what was a terrific performance from Luis Enrique's side.

The Spanish side sits top of the Group E with Japan on 2nd.

Group F:

Morocco vs Croatia: Morocco and Croatia have played out a goalless draw in their World Cup opener on Wednesday. Croatia, the 2018 runners-up, would have been hoping to make a positive start at the Al Bayt Stadium, but they were matched for large periods by their African opponents.

Belgium vs Canada: Belgium started their 2022 World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Canada. Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal of the game after he connected with a long ball from Toby Alderweireld that caught the Canada defence cold. Roberto Martinez’s side had Thibaut Courtois to thank for keeping them in the game as he saved Alphonso Davies’ penalty and made four other saves to ensure Belgium won their eighth consecutive group stage World Cup game. But there were a lot of positives for John Herdman to take into Canada’s next match as they seek their first-ever goal at the World Cup.

The Belgium team sits top of the Group F with Croatia & Morocco on 2nd & 3rd.

Group G:

Switzerland vs Cameroon: Cameroon-born Breel Embolo scored the only goal of a tightly-contested game to seal victory for Switzerland; Xherdan Shaqiri laid the chance on early in the second period.

Brazil vs Serbia: Richarlison scored twice as Brazil began their World Cup campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Serbia at the Lusail Stadium to move top of Group G but ankle injury to star player Neymar risks overshadowing the victory with MRI scan scheduled.

Group H:

Uruguay vs South Korea: Uruguay & South Korea starts their World Cup campaign with a goalless draw at the Education City Stadium. Urugauy veteran defender Diego Godin hits the post in the first half and Federico Valverde in the second as both the teams happy to share the points. 

Portugal vs Ghana: Cristiano Ronaldo helps Portugal clinch a 3-2 win over Ghana in their World Cup opener; 37-year-old's penalty made him the first man to score in five World Cups; Portugal move top of Group H after Uruguay's goalless draw with South Korea. Ghana equalised against the run of play when Andre Ayew, their own veteran striker, fired home from close range (73), but Portugal immediately responded with quickfire goals from Joao Felix (78) and substitute Rafael Leao (80), both set up by Bruno Fernandes. Portugal had to survive a nervy finale after Osman Bukari headed home Ghana's second goal (89).
